Shaping Myself in 2024: A Year of Micro Changes

Happy New Year! As I step into 2024, I find myself contemplating the small shifts i wat to make in 2024 that will lead to significant transformations in my daily life and my inner happiness.

This year, my focus revolves around my relationship with sugar—a cornerstone of “treats” in my life. Acknowledging my challenges as a diabetic, I admit that I haven't been the best at managing it since getting Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. As a comfort eater sweet treats and sweet carbs, have been my comfort as i navigate this illness, and grieve what it has taken from me.

In an effort to redefine what constitutes a treat, I've been toying with the idea of making treats savoury.

Shifting my mindset is crucial, and I find that envisioning things differently and playing around in my mind helps. Drawing inspiration from Asia, where the meals i loved had sweetness in them but a whole lot of goodness too.

I want to create my own sweet, but healthier sweet carbs and my ultimate favourite, Jellies. I’m thinking honey, turmeric and ginger. I want to make the conscious choice to steer away from unhealthy indulgences more in 2024.

Face and body aging is a reality and so i am picking my favourite, aesthetic ,parts of me and consciously incorporating daily, doable, exercise in my 2024 . Instead of fixating on what I miss about my appearance, I've decided to engage consciously in supporting myself as I age.

Every day for the past few weeks, I've committed to just five push-ups, a seemingly small goal but a daily habit I want to instil. Two sun salutations for yoga are another micro-change, focusing not on the duration but on the consistency.

Meditation has been part of my life since my early twenties. While I often incorporate it into my daily routine in various forms, taking moments in my day to sit into my body and focus on my breath, I want to reintroduce sitting silent meditation. Starting with just five minutes, I aim to make it a daily practice.

Micro-changes, the smallest actions taken regularly, are my approach to implementing lasting changes. I'm incorporating more movement into my routine, committing to daily activities like five push-ups and two sun salutations for yoga. My goal is to establish a daily habit that i sustain, not getting lost in how many i “should do” or aiming to high and not lasting a week at it.

My conscious changes extend to my digital habits. I've removed the Instagram app from my phone, opting for Italian lesson apps instead. This shift not only alters my digital interactions but also opens up new possibilities and spending my time doing something that support a better lifestyle, and happier hobbies. I cant say iv even got much from Instagram, aside from feeling like I people could find my business but for 204 I want to try different ways for people to find my business, and invest if they feel its something that can enhance their life and self love.

The one i am most excited about is Breaking a decade-long habit of listening to crime documentaries as i fall asleep. It began during a difficult period of depression and anxiety where i was afraid to be alone in the dark. Ive been trying to break the habit for years now but the anxiety attacks it invokes in me is horrible.

This year, I'm choosing sleep stories, a conscious effort to bring positivity into my bedtime routine. And since deleting the Instagram app along with reading before bed Sleep stories seem to be enough stimulation to keep my mind engaged and comforted as i fall to sleep. I dream of the night i can sleep in pure silence. Micro-change along with accepting my needs rather than feeling shame about them will get there.

These conscious changes may seem small, but I believe they will contribute positively to my life.

As I navigate through 2024, embracing micro habits, I anticipate becoming more connected to my life, focusing on things that truly matter. The journey may be uncomfortable at times, but the excitement lies in the possibility.

Here's to a year of micro changes and the possibilities they bring!
